INTRODUCTION
Nursing profession is an important element of
element of any health care management system.
The twin developments of better diagnostic
techniques and changing social factors for health
care delivery, throw-up challenges to the nurses.
This implies nurses should not merely acquire
theoretical or practical knowledge about the
technical aspects, it is discipline, a career, rich in
opportunities and variety. As a nurse it is our prime
responsibility to upgrade our profession . Education
is an important tool which is needed for up-
gradation of our of our profession.
EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION
Educational preparation is the prolonged
process in order to include instructions in the
specified body of knowledge and techniques
of the profession. It includes more than
knowledge and skills.

 Continuing professional advancement
activities for nurses are planned and
organized learning experiences,designed to
advanced personal and professional
development.
 Activities can include the attendance of

workshopes, conferances, reading


Journal etc.
DEFINITION
 The conscious updating of professional
knowledge and the improvement of
professional competence through out
person’s working life.
 It is a commitment to begin professional,

keeping up to date and continuously seeking


to improve.

NURSING PROFESSIONAL
ADVANCEMENT MODEL
The professional advancement model is
designed to recognize and reward nurses
based on their professional contributions to
advancing the practice and the professional of
nursing. Nurses in model progress from novice
to expert through contributions at the unit
level, within the medical centre , and beyond.
The PAM was created in 2008 in response to
nurses feedback for more opportunities
related to professional growth and
development.

 ABSTRACT

Background
Nurses require certain skills for progression in their field.
Identifying these skills can provide the context for
nursing career advancement.
 Objectives

This study aimed to identify the skills needed for nurses’


career advancement.
 Materials and Methods
 A qualitative approach using content analysis was

adopted to study a purposive sample of eighteen nurses


working in teaching hospitals affiliated with the Qazvin,
Shahid Beheshti, and Iran Universities of Medical Sciences.
The data were collected through semi-structured
interviews, and analyzed using conventional content
analysis.
 Results

The three themes extracted from the data included


interpersonal capabilities, competency for career success,
and personal capacities. The results showed that
acquiring a variety of skills is essential for career
advancement.
 Conclusions

The findings showed that personal, interpersonal, and


functional skills can facilitate nurses’ career advancement.
The effects of these skills on career advancement depend
on a variety of conditions that require further studies.
