EXPECTATIONS:
1) CALCULATE A SPECIFIED MEASURE OF
POSITION (DECILE, PERCENTILE) OF GROUPED
DATA.
2) INTERPRET MEASURES OF POSITION; AND
3) SOLVE PROBLEMS INVOLVING MEASURES
OF POSITION OF GROUPED DATA.
MATH PRAYER
Dear god and father of all creations. Thank you for adding
happiness, multiplying love, and subtracting hate into our daily
lives. Please help us to understand and solve all the problems and
lessons of life. Give us enough strength so we can diminish all
negativities. Lastly, protect us from the never-ending pandemic.
All this we pray in the mighty name of jesus, amen.
DRILL
𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗟𝗟: identify what's being asked in the following
statements:
1. I am the average of a given data set.
Who am I?
ANSWER: MEAN

2. I am the number that occurs most often
in a data set. Who am I?
ANSWER: MODE

3. I am referred to as the middle value when
a data set is ordered from least to greatest.
Who am I?
ANSWER: MEDIAN
DRILL
4. I am a tabular presentation of quantitative data grouped
into numerical intervals called classes or class intervals
together with the number of observations in each class
called the frequency. Who am I?
ANSWER: Frequency Distribution Table

5. I
am the difference between the highest
and the lowest values in the set of data. Who
am I?
ANSWER: RANGE

Deciles divide the distribution into ten equal parts. to
find the deciles, we first need to determine the decile
classes. the 𝐷ₖ class is the class interval where the
(𝑘𝑁/10)ᵗʰ data is contained.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚
then, use the following formula to solve for 𝐷ₖ
Where:
LB is the lower boundary of the Dₖ class.
Determine the 𝐷6 class. It is the class interval that contains the data.
𝐿𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐷6 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑠
This means that 𝐷6 is at the 18th position. Thus, we need to find the class
interval where the 18th data is contained using the less than cumulative
frequency (<𝑐𝑓) column.
The 18th data is contained between the
13th and the 21st data.
