Night of 21 Dec,
seventy-six heavily
loaded Army transports,
all under strong naval
escort, steamed into
Lingayen Gulf and
dropped anchor. This is
the main strength of
General Homma's 14th
Army, altogether 43,110
men.
From 22 to 24 Dec, they
landed with little
opposition
The Lamon Bay Force had a secondary role in
the seizure of Luzon and was consequently
much smaller than the Lingayen Force. Its
combat elements consisted primarily of
General Morioka's 16th Division (less the 9th
and 33d Infantry and some supporting
elements) and numbered 7,000 men. In
addition, it contained a number of attached
service and supporting units.
The voyage from Amami Oshima was smooth and
uneventful until 23 Dec, when an American
submarine forced the convoy to adopt evasive
tactics. No damage was caused.

At 0130 of the following morning (24 Dec), after the

Lingayen Force had already been ashore for two
days, the transports dropped anchor in Lamon Bay.
An hour later the troops were ready to move to
shore.
