Profile and History of the Central Library

 The library of Government College Malappuram started


functioning in the year 1973

 Until 2018 it housed in a spacious room in the main block


of the college.

 Library now functioning in a newly constructed  building at


the entrance of college main block.

 Now the library has total plinth area of 12,108 square feet.
 The library have a collection of more than 40,000 books,
1500 Reference books, 10 Magazines and 7 newspapers.
Mission

The mission of the Central Library is to facilitate the

intellectual development of users by providing access to

high-quality information and research resources, promoting

study and teaching and fostering a culture of academic

inquiry and critical thinking.


Objectives

 Acquire and maintain a diverse collection of books, journals, and

other resources that support the college's academic programs and


research interests.
Providing access to digital resources, including databases, e-books,
and online journals, to enhance users' research capabilities.
Offering reference services and research assistance to help users in
navigating and locating relevant information.
Developing and promoting information literacy skills to help users
critically evaluate and use information effectively.

NLIST RESOURCES
Arrangement of Books

 Books are arranged on the shelves according to Dewey Decimal

Classification Scheme. Each book is assigned a Class Number and Book


Number.
Class Number is assigned to a book according to its subject and Book
Number individualizes a book among others having the same Class Number.
In this arrangement books on the same subject are kept together.
Members are advised to check the availability of the books through the
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) Service.
After obtaining relevant information through OPAC, the users can proceed
to the respective stack area to take the books of their choice.
