National Museum
of Nature and
Science
Japan’s only integrated national science museum
Located in Ueno Park
Made in 1871, it’s one of the country's oldest museums
The Japan Gallery (Nihonkan) has many exhibits of
prehistoric creatures and the history of the Japanese
people, including traditional customs and outfits.
The Global Gallery (Chikyūkan) has many scientific
and technology displays, including robotics and vintage
vehicles

Founded in 711 AD
Dedicated to the goddess Ukanomitama-no-
Mikoto; people come here pray for their well-
being.

Kinkaku-ji (The
Golden Pavilion)
 Zen temple in northern Kyoto, top two floors completely
covered in gold leaf
 Has burned down numerous times throughout its history

Each floor represents a different architectural style:
 First floor in the Shinden style (natural wooden pillars,
white plaster walls, Buddhists statues)
 Second floor in the Bukke style (typical of samurai
residence, contains a seated Kannon Bodhisattva
surrounded by statues of the Four Heavenly Kings)
 Third floor in the style of a Chinese Zen Hall (gilded
throughout, golden phoenix on top)
 Surrounding gardens with Sekkatei Teahouse, built
during the Edo Period

Kiyomizu-dera
Buddhist Temple on the Mount Higashiyama, overlooking Gion district,
Eastern Kyoto- UNESCO World Heritage Site
Kiyomizu-no-butai, 15m wooden terrace, is a national treasure- anyone who
made a vow to the deity, jumps and survives can realise their wish
Called Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera (‘the temple of pure water’)
The Otowa waterfall from the Mount Otowa, listed among the top ten most
clear water sources in Japan, has a group of three fountains, each able to grant
intelligence, beauty and longevity
Jishu-jinja
(shrine devoted to Okuninushino-Mikoto/the god of love and
matchmaking with 2 love stones)
Bussoku-seki (cleansing fountain, contains the footprints of Buddha and bell
that rings100 times on the new year’s eve)
