Administrative Behavior

 Administrative behavior is a study of decision making processes in


administrative organization.

 Administrative behavior includes the way organization


administration oversee the implementation of institution interests
while considering individuals' interests.

 According to Fredrick Tyler (1911) administrative behavior refers


to the routine operational control, supervision, influence and the
entire characteristics and functions of the organization.

 According to Tyler, An Individual in the organization is “homo


economicus” which means is motivated by self interests and all
economic alternatives available to him or her in making decision.

 Administrative behavior of a school head can be defined as his mode


of action in making available the human and material resources and in
making the purpose of school more effective.
Administrative Tasks

 This refers to specific routine/roles or functions undertaken or attempted or required to be


done by the administrator or assigned to the administrator in the organization.

 These are duties related to maintaining an office setting. These duties vary widely from
workplace but most often include tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering
phones, greeting visitors and maintain organized file systems for the organization.

 Most often these tasks are related to supporting an office, they include phone, emails and
calendar management, internal communications, preparing reports, maintaining office
equipment and office supplies and some human resources functions.

 Administrative skills- refer to those competencies a leader needs in


order to run an organization in order to carry out the organization’s
purposes and goals. These skills involve planning, organizing work,
assigning the right tasks to the right people and coordinating work
activities.

 Administrative skills are important because they keep business processes


running smoothly. Any successful, efficient organization should have
both administrative professionals who have strong skills in this area, as
well as individual contributors who have good administrative skills.
Tasks (Roles / Functions) of Administrators in the
Education Institutions.

 Administrators in any education organization (i.e. education centers,


schools, colleges, universities, etc) are responsible in carrying out the
following tasks (daily routine roles / functions);

1) Administrators are responsible in carrying out all activities of


administrative personnel such as;
i) Recruitment of workers
ii) Replacement of staffs
iii) Induction/training /orienting

2) Administrator are the instructor of educational programs such as


curriculum improvement, supporting school social services like food
and transport, housing, social recreation, etc.

resources and human resources records.

4) Administering institutional transformation and renovation processes for

Educational administrators are required to;
i) Administer census and attendance services.

Induction- the process of introducing new employees / teachers to the
school organizations. This is similar to orientation.

This a close working friendliness between teachers to teachers, non
teaching staff, all staffs and administrators.
