What is Multi Meter/Tester

• A multimeter or a multi-tester, also known as a

volt/ohm meter or VOM, is an electronic
measuring instrument that combines several
measurement functions in one unit.
What is Multi Meter/Tester

• A typical multimeter may include features such

as the ability to measure voltage, current and
resistance. Multimeters may use analog or
digital circuits— analog multimeters and
digital multimeters (often abbreviated DMM or
DVOM.)

and
Function
of
Multi Meter
Scale

• A series of markings or
lines of reading the
value of a quantity
Pointer

• It looks like needle shaped rod

that moves over the scale of a
multi tester
• It is mechanically connected to
the moving coil
Range Selector Knob
• Also know as selector switch . A part of
multi tester that select different functions
and range
Examples:
• Ohms settings –
Ohmmeter - measure resistance
• Voltage settings
Voltmeter – measure voltage
• Current Settings –
Amperes - measure current
Test Probe
• A medium stick like
• Negative (Black)
and Positive (red)
• It is used to connect the test
probe to the electrical
components being tested
Zero Ohm Adjusting Knob

• It is used to zero-in the pointer

before measuring resistance
Adjustment Screw

• A part of multi tester to adjust

the pointer to the zero position
of the scale
