NORMAL

DISTRIBUTION
AND ITS
PROPERTIES
NORMAL PROBABILITY
DISTRIBUTION

- it is probability distribution
of continuous random
variables.
PROPERTIES OF
NORMAL CURVE
*the distribution is bell-shaped.
*the curve is symmetrical to its center.
*the tails of the curve flatten out indefinitely
along the horizontal axis but never touch it.
*the mean, median and mode coincide at
the center.
*the area under the curve is 1
*the change of the value of the mean
shifts the graph of the normal curve to
the right or to the left.
*the standard deviation determines the
shape of the graphs (particularly the
height and width of the curve). When
the standard deviation is large, the
normal curve is short and wide, while a
small value for the standard deviation
yields skinnier and taller graph.
Converting a Normal
Random Variable to a
Standard Normal
Variable (Vice Versa)
Z-SCORE
- It measures the distance between an
observation and the mean, measured
units in standard deviation.
Formula:
where: Z=standard normal curve/z-score
X=any data value in a normal distribution
=mean
=standard deviation
If the z score is positive, the score
is above the mean. If the z score is
0, the score is the same as the
mean. If the Z score is negative,
the score is below the mean.
