Fire Safety Precautions What to do Before
• Adherence to safety standards based on the provision
of the Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008 (RA 9514).
• Install fire safety features at home and in workplace.
Check them regularly. Always keep a fire safety kit.
• Inspect your house to be sure that is free from fire
hazard.
• Develop an escape plan for the different areas at
home or office.
• Participate in and take drills seriously.
• STOP, DROP, and ROLL
• Know the number of your local fire department or
emergency hotlines.
• Know signs of an impending fire hazard
• Unplug appliances when not in use.

What to do During
• Follow the escape and fire drill plans.
• Do not open a door that feels hot or has smoke coming
out from underneath the door or around the door frame.
• Call the local fire department
• If you must escape through smoke, get low and go
under the smoke to the exist. Close the door behind you.
• Do not use the elevators, use the stairs instead.
• If smoke, heat, or flame blocks your exist routes, stay in
the room with the doors closed. Place a towel under the
door. Open a window and wave a brightly colored cloth
or flashlight to signal for help.
• Once outside, stay away from the source of fire.

What to do During
• If your clothes catch on fire, stop, drop, and
roll. If someone cannot stop, drop, and roll,
cover the flame with a blanket or towel.
• RACE (Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Evacuate)
and PASS (pull the pin, aim at the base of the
fire, squeeze the operating handle, sweep
from side to side).
• Rescue the people who are in immediate
danger. Alert authorities by calling the local fire
department.

• Be sure that all injured individuals
are treated by the doctor.
• Do not return to the building until
given advisory by the fire authorities.
• Pay attention to how you and your
loved ones are experiencing and
handling stress.
