A Systematic Review of Cross-Sectional Studies On The Association of Sedentary Behavior With Cardiometabolic Diseases and Related Biomarkers in South American Adults
A Systematic Review of Cross-Sectional Studies On The Association of Sedentary Behavior With Cardiometabolic Diseases and Related Biomarkers in South American Adults
• South American adults are likely at larger risk for developing obesity,
diabetes, and CCD when incurring in prolonged SB time.
• A significant association of longer time spent in SB was found with
obesity (8 studies), DM (6 but 1 study), and CCD (4 studies) in the 20
studies reviewed.
• ..the magnitude of the risk of developing DM with longer sedentary
time is approximately twice as high as in the general population and,
in general, longer sedentary time is associated with a 14 % greater
risk of cardiovascular disease
