• O Natural Park Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina located on the coast of Portugal
between the Junqueira river, in São Torpes and the beach of Burgau whith na extinction of 110
kilometers, in a total área of 89,595 hectares.

• In the park, there are several types of natural and semi-.natural habitts, such as cliffs and step,
jagged cliffs,beaches, several islets and reefs, the Mira estuary, the cape Sardão, the
promontory of Sagres and Cabo de São Vicente, dune systems, heathlands, marshes, salty
steppes, temporary lakes, ravines, etc.

• The climate is Mediterranean, but with a strong maritime influence.
• Temperatures remain mild throughout the year, except during periods of high winds, when these can
rise or fall precipitously.

• Among the endemic ones there are, for example, plants such as: Biscutella vicentina, Scilla vicentina,
Centaurea vicentina, Diplotaxis vicentina, Hyacinthoides vicentina, Cistus palhinhae, Plantago
almogravensis. Other species are considered rare, such as the samouco (Myrica faya), the rowan (Sorbus
domestica) or the Silene rotlunaleri. However, agricultural activity has already caused the extinction of
plants such as Armeria arcuata.
• Arboreal species are dominated by darters, such as cork oak and cork oak, especially in ravines. The
strawberry tree is also characteristic of this area.

• The most important animals for the fauna are the following: Peregrine falcon, Tartaranhão, White Stork,
Graça, Little green wart frog, Sacarrabos, Portuguese boga, Penceiro-das-Torres, Red-billed jackdaw.

• Environmental issues that affect an area?
• The protected area of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina is to limit the area
affected to agricultural production with “covers” within the Park the impacts on this territory, from an
environmental and landscape point of view.
