Why is Land
Important?
Land is the most important natural resource in the world. It is needed so that we can use it in
many ways such as places to live, for leisure, for jobs, agriculture, etc.. Everything is supported
by land, including wildlife, people, and even natural vegetation. Land is needed for anything to
survive. Without land, it would not be possible for the earth to support life.
Reasons for the
Rising demand for
Land
The reasons for
Land Constraint
There are two reasons.
(a) The increasing demand for land
- This is because of the population growth, increasing
demand for housing, growth of industries, development
of transport systems, increasing demand for arable
land, increasing demand for recreational spaces, etc.
- More details here There is not enough land

Why is there a
limited supply of
land?
Limited supply
 Land is only 30% of the earth’s surface.
 But not all of it is useful.
 Land can be damaged through human activities.
 Some areas aren’t useable because they are too
wet or too dry to live in.
 Land is also set aside for areas like water
catchment areas and for military purposes.

Conserving Land

- When the population grows, the

demand for land/resources grow.
- However, we still need to protect the
environment to sustain it.
- To do that, we need to conserve land.
- A way of conserving land can be by
setting aside land for nature reserves
which protects wildlife, plants and
other natural features.
