HOW TO CONDUCT

BIBLE STUDY IN YOUR ACTION GROUPS

PRINCIPLES OF DYNAMIC BIBLE STUDY

 Knowing how to ask the RIGHT KIND OF

QUESTIONS

 You will discover exciting insights you’ve

overlooked in the past!
PRINCIPLES OF DYNAMIC BIBLE STUDY

 Involves writing down what you have observed

and discovered

 You can’t study the Bible without writing

something down – that’s the difference
between Bible Studying and Bible Reading.
“THOUGHTS disentangle
themselves when they
pass through the lips and
the fingertips.”

Dawson Trotman
SPIRITUAL
NOTEBOOK

To write down thoughts

and insights God has
given you.
PRINCIPLES OF DYNAMIC BIBLE STUDY

 APPLICATION as the ultimate goal and not

just INTERPRETATION
HOW?

GOAL:KNOW JESUS
BE LIKE HIM IN…
THOUGHTS
SPEECH
ACTIONS
ATTITUDES
VALUES
PRINCIPLES OF DYNAMIC BIBLE STUDY

 You can never exhaust the riches in any one

passage of the Scripture

 You can dig and dig deep into the Scripture,

but you can never reach the bottom.
BEST ATTITUDE IN BIBLE STUDY

“ I will not let you go

unless you bless me.”
Gen 32:26
BIBLE STUDY METHODS
1) S.P.A.C.E.P.E.T.S

Sin to confess?
Promise to claim?
Attitude to change?
Command to obey?
Example to follow?
Prayer to pray?
Error to avoid?
Truth to believe?
Something to praise God for?
2) 7-STEP BIBLE STUDY

Step 1 We invite the Lord.

Step 2 We read the text.
Step 3 We pick out words and meditate on them.
Step 4 We let God speak to us in silence.
Step 5 We share what we have heard in our hearts.
Step 6 We discuss any response which our group is called to make or
which you as an individual are called to make.
Step 7 We pray together spontaneously.
3) OPEN - DIG - REFLECT

OPEN:
Designed to break the ice in the group. Smile. Relax. Get ready for the
bible study. Watch out for laughter. A group is never so vulnerable to
the Holy Spirit as when it is laughing.
DIG:
Designed to help you scratch, sniff, sift & search for clues in the
scripture passage. Always open-ended to give the group a chance to
talk about their own point of view – where no one is “right or wrong”.
REFLECT:
Designed to take personal inventory. Share on a deeper level.
Questions like :
“How would you have reacted in that situation?”
“What is your experience of this…”
“What is God saying to you in this passage?”
4) REAPING REWARDS

Read between the lines.

Expect to be challenged. As you read, what challenges you

personally? Are you wrestling with God?

Apply what touches you. How can you alter your thinking so
there is agreement between your heart and God’s Word?

Pray a response to God. Based on your reading, what do you

need to tell God?
5) Straight Line-Broken Line: Bible Study

 Read the Bible passage.

 Underline using a STRAIGHT LINE (___________)

word or words that encouraged or inspired you.

 Underline using a BROKEN LINE (_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _)

word or words that disturbed or challenged you.

 Share to your group your feelings/insights.

6) LECTIO DIVINA (Sacred Reading)

 READ-THINK/MEDITATE-PRAY-ACT

READ: Luke 17:11-19 “The Thankful Leper”. Read again. Slower &
more prayerfully this time.

THINK/MEDITATE:
o Am I like the thankful leper or am I more like the other nine?
o Am I usually thankful or am I a complainer, always dissatisfied?
o How often do you thank God in a day?
o How has Jesus healed you spiritually? Physically? Emotionally?
6) LECTIO DIVINA (Sacred Reading)

 READ-THINK/MEDITATE-PRAY-ACT

PRAY:
“Heavenly Father, I know that I have neglected to thank you for so
many blessings. You've blessed me and waited for me to run back to you
with thanks, and I've gone my way. I've taken you for granted. Please
forgive me. Put thankfulness into my heart and soul. Let me speak it,
sing it, and live it. That I might be a visible not silent example of one
whom you have healed. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.”
6) LECTIO DIVINA (Sacred Reading)

 READ-THINK/MEDITATE-PRAY-ACT

ACT:
o What do I want to do, based on my reflection & prayer?
o Write down 5 things you want to thank the Lord for.
