Types of Vegetation

• The relief and climatic factors develop different

types of vegetation based on the major forest
types, India has following types of vegetation:
• Tropical evergreen forest
• Tropical deciduous forest
• Tropical thorn forest and scrubs
• Mountain forest
• Mangrove forest
Altititudial distribution of
Mountain Forests :
• Wet temperate forests
• Tundra vegetation
• Temperate forest
• Temperate grasslands
• Alpine vegetation
• Alpine grasslands
Mangrove Forest:
• These are found in coastal delta areas influenced by sea tides.
Due to this fact they are also called Tidal forest. Such forests
are found in the delta areas of rivers on the east coast of India
• Ganga, Brahmaputra, Mahanadi.
• The flora found in Ganga – Brahmaputra deltas :
• Palm, coconut, keora, agar, Sundari trees.
• Fauna :
Royal Bengal Tigers, snake, turtle, crocodile.
