EMOTIONAL
INTELLIGENCE
It is the ability to recognize and
understand emotions in yourself and
others, and your ability to use this
awareness to manage your behavior and
relationships.
EMOTIONAL
INTELLIGENCE
How emotional intelligence is measured ?
Several assessments have been developed to measure levels
of emotional intelligence. Such assessments are frequently
used to identify potential leaders within an organization.
The most common types are:
• Self-report test: Relies on the respondent’s answers or
statements to rate their own behavior
• Ability test: Respondents perform tests to assess
their abilities to perceive, identify, understand and
manage situations.
Our presentation today is related to one such ability test
TEIQue test which based on trait model
TRAIT MODEL
Trait EI concerns people's perception of their own
emotional abilities. Trait EI is defined as "a
constellation of emotional self- perceptions located at
the levels of personality hierarchies." This simply
means that emotions are subjective and emotional
intelligence is quite simple, an individual's own
perception of his own ability to work with emotions.
Thus it focuses on particular personality traits helpful
in perceiving and regulating emotions.
TRAIT MODEL
Petrides asserts that there is no standard profile of an
emotionally intelligent person because certain traits are
adaptive, functional and useful in some situations while the
same traits may hamper individuals in other contexts. For
example, being reserved would be useful in a job role that
demands research in isolation (e.g. job of a scientist) but may
not be suited to a job role that expects social interaction and
agreeableness (e.g. job of a public servant)
T
TEIQUE
•The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire
TEST   was developed at UCL in 2001 as a measurement
tool for trait emotional intelligence theory. It is
used worldwide by businesses and other
organizations to improve performance and develop
staff. Over the years, it has helped enhance the
mental health and wellbeing of thousands of
individuals.
• Trait emotional intelligence has
been used to predict (among
many other outcomes): academic
performance and pro-social
TEIQUE behavior in vulnerable pupils;
occupational achievement and
TEST organizational commitment in
USES  employees; self-harming in
teenagers; and anxiety and worry
during the diagnostic cancer
pathway.

WELL-BEING

Our expectations from the well-being category were

that the students from the field of psychology will
score the highest in comparison to others, as they
frequently learn and gather more information about
the importance of their mental and physical well-
being thus making them more aware and mindful
about it. But according to the results, engineering
students had an average of 5.02 which is a very good
score and also the highest which was unexpected by
us as we anticipated that they will be more
academically inclined thus compromising on their
well-being  to achieve their targets in time.
Psychology students had an average score of 4.86
which is also a very good score and the second
highest overall.

12
SELF CONTROL

As psychology student we predicted that we

psychology would not have that great self-control as
we viewed our self's quit sensitive in perceiving
emotions of both ours and others which could easily
lead to emotional breakdowns.
We had expected architecture and law students to be
on higher side of self-control since their work usually
needs High levels of concentration an precision which
would need a great deal of patience and self-control .
The result were quite similar to our predictions with
architecture students coming the highest followed by
engineering and law . Psychology students were on
lower end of spectrum Similar to our predictions.

13
EMOTIONALITY
We expected Psychology students to score the highest as
the course is centered around emotions and managing
them effectively, consequently the students are more
familiar with emotions. The results corresponded with
our expectation as Psychology students scored the
highest with an average of 4.58. The second highest
overall was the field of Law, with an average score of
4.32, which was unexpected as we assumed the students
to score the lowest as their course requires them to use
logical thinking and not let emotions influence their
judgement.  Example: criminal lawyers cannot let
emotions affect their ability to represent their client for a
case.
SOCIABILITY

We had concluded commerce  here to top this

category as people in commerce are more involved
in jobs such as HR , company manager  and
marketing . Skills needed for this sort of job
usually needs  public meetings , leadership ,social
interaction  management  and decision making .
Unlike our conclusion commerce had the lowest
score in terms of social ability, at the same time we
didn’t expect Engineering and Architecture on the
top of the category as  their job usually  need less
public interaction and more individually inclined.

SUMMARY OF OUR
FINDINGS
Our research shows that, engineering were
the highest in well-being and sociability.
Whereas psychology was the highest in
emotionality
and architecture/management/design shows
the highest self-control.
CONCLUSION
As observed from our findings, overall psychology had the
highest score, 4.5, followed by law, 4.43, which was very
much anticipated by us. Surprisingly though, commerce
had the lowest in most of the categories, averaging their
total TEI score to 3.95. The students of engineering and
architecture/management/design were borderline equal,
4.35 and 4.3 respectively.
The results we found through research data was quite
different from generalization we made about different
fields.
