Many posit that Applied Social Science, or the
application of social science theory and social
science research, is a natural consequence of the
need to address social issues from a
multidisciplinary background; thus, it takes on many
forms. These forms include the application of
research in addressing the needs and problems of a
community, in specific fields and in professions that
require a rigorous understanding of social science
research and theory, and in business administration,
social welfare, and media and public relations.
The same rigor required for these occupations
should also be expected in applying social
science theory and social science research in
the fields of COUNSELING, SOCIAL WORK,
COMMUNICATION. These disciplines, which are
the focus of the applied social sciences, are
built around a keen familiarity with psychology
and sociology and require a deeper
understanding of individuals, communities, and
society in general in both the national and
international level.
The demands for the disciplines in the applied
social sciences are constantly driven by real-
world conditions. Because of globalization,
demographic shifts, and changing economic and
social conditions, individuals and communities
have to increasingly address the demand or bear
the strain of a rapidly changing world. The
application of the social sciences in
investigating and addressing real-world social
concerns and problems could make an impact on
people and their communities.
