Properties of

Multiplication
Objective
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:

1. Enumerate the properties of multiplication

2. State an example of each properties of multiplication
01 Commutative
Property
The order in which factors are
multiplied doesn’t change the
product.
Example:
7x8= 56
8x7= 56
Associative
Property 02
Two or more factors can be put into
groups in different ways. The result will
not change , no matter the order of the
multiplicands.
Example:
7x5x9=9x7x5
(7x5) X 9 = (9x7) x5
35 x 9 = 63 X 5
315 = 315
 Distributive
Property 03
When multiplying a number by the
addition of other two, you have to
multiply that number by each of the
addends and then to add the obtained
results.
Example: 5 x ( 6 + 3) = ( 5x6 ) + ( 5 x 3)
5 x (9) = (30) + (15)
45 = 45
Identity property
04
The product of any number and one is the
same number.
Example: 8, 458,892 x 1 = 8, 458,892
Zero Property 05
Any number multiplied by zero equals
zero.
Example: 1, 036,892 x 0 = 0
Let’s identify
2x8=8x2
Commutative Property
(6x2)x4=6x(2x4)
Associative Property
3x(5+10)=(3x5)+(3x10
)
Distributive Property
12x0=0
Zero Property
6•4=4•6
Commutative Property
of Multiplication
3(2 + 5) = 3•2 + 3•5
Distributive Property
