Geotextiles
• Geotextile is defined as: planar, permeable, polymeric (synthetic or natural)
textile material, which may be nonwoven, knitted or woven, used in contact
with soil and other materials in geotechnical and civil engineering
applications
• The sheets are flexible and permeable and generally have the appearance
of a fabric.
2
• Geotextiles are made up of polymers such as polyester or polypropylene.
• They are divided into 3 categories on the basis of the way they are
prepared :
1) Woven Fabric Geotextiles
2) Non-Woven Geotextiles
3) Knitted Geotextiles
