“RECTANGULAR
COORDINATES
SYSTEM”
OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson you should be able

to :
1. illustrate the Rectangular coordinate
system and its uses,
2. plot points in the rectangular
coordinate system; and
3. apply the concepts of Rectangular
coordinate system into real life
situation.
What is Rectangular coordinate system?

Rectangular coordinate
system is also known as
Cartesian coordinate system
after Rene Descartes. It is
based on a grid, and every
point on the plane can be
identified by unique x and y
coordinates.
Rene Descartes
• He is French philosopher,
mathematician, scientist and lay
Catholic who invented analytic
geometry, linking the previously
separate fields of geometry and
algebra.
• Born on march 31, 1596, and died
on February 11, 1650.
• He is also known as the “ Father of
Modern Philosophy”.

GROUP ACTIVITY
• Group 1: Plot each species on coordinate plane guided
by the given coordinates at the back of each pictures.

• Group 2: Mystery picture puzzles with pics word then

guess the name of the picture.

After the activity each group will choose a

representative who will explain the task assigned to them.

1. Do you think that we can really apply Rectangular
coordinate system in our daily lives?

2. How can the Rectangular Coordinate system be used in

real life?

3.  Have you had an experience in your daily life where a

rectangular coordinate system is applied? If yes, can
you describe the experience?
Direction: In your grapping paper plot the concept of
Rectangular Coordinate system and identify in what
quadrant it is located.
