Inspection of ongoing works was carried out by Chief Engineer

Vigilance & Quality Assurance from 09.06.2022 to 11.06.2022
of canals, distributaries and minors of ropar head works
division jalandhar, bist doab division jalandhar and sidhwa
canal division ludhiana of Sirhind Canal Circle.
Special points to be taken care by the field staff
1. Rehabilitation, repair/ maintenance of pucca
structures.

regulators, Cross Regulators, Gates and
falls etc constructed on canals/
distributaries/minors needs to be
prioritized to ensure proper regulation
of the system.
 2. The damaged portion of lining present in lined
channels

The damaged portion of lining present
in lined channels needs to be restored/
repaired/relined so that the adjacent
lining of these damaged patches can
be prevented for further damage and
to avoid breach of channels at these
reaches.
 3. The presence of Ghats on unlined
canals/distributaries/minors weakens the
banks.

• The presence of Ghats on unlined canals /distributaries
/minors weakens the banks and hence the canal is more
prone to be breached at these locations. To avoid this
department should adopted the method of QILA BUSHING
etc. Also, necessary action should be taken against the cattle
herders as per canal act. If required then as per the demand
of local inhabitants construction of pucca canal Ghats outside
the canal designed section may be taken up.
 4. The clearance of inside and banks of canals should be taken
up simultaneously so that on completion of these clearance
works proper inspection can be ensured by field Engineers.
