Characteristics

of Research
Characteristics of
report
● Involves the gathering of new
data from new sources or 1st
hand information.

● Directed towards the solution

of a problem.
Characteristics of
report
● Characterized by carefully
designed procedures applying
rigorous analysis.

● Requires expertise
Characteristics of
report
● Demands accurate observation
and description of what is
being studied.
● Strives to be logical.

report
● Characterized by patient and
unhurried activities.

● Requires innovative
approaches and determination
to succeed.
Characteristics of
report

● Emphasizes the development

of generalizations, principles,
hypothesis and theories that
may be helpful in predicting
future occurences
Characteristics of

● Carefully and accurately

recorded and reported.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
According to Calmorin&Calmorin
(2007), there are seven characteristics
of research. These are (1) empirical,
(2) logical, (3) cyclical, (4) analytical,
(5) critical, (6) methodical, and (7)
replicability.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Empirical. Research is based on
direct experience or observation by
the researcher. The collection of
data relies on practical experience
without giving consideration to
scientific knowledge or theory.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Logical. Research is based on
valid procedures and principles.
Scientific study is done in an
orderly manner so that the
investigator has confidence on the
results.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Cyclical. Research is cyclical
process because it starts with a
problem and ends with a
problem.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Analytical. Research utilizes
proven analytical procedures in
gathering data, whether historical,
descriptive, experimental, and case
study.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Critical. Research exhibits
careful and precise judgment. A
higher level of confidence must
be established.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Methodical. Research is
conducted in a methodical
manner without bias using
systematic method and
procedures.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Replicability. The research
design and procedures are
replicated or repeated to
enable the researcher to arrive
at valid conclusive results.
ADDITIONAL INFOS:
Similarities and differences of
replicated researches can be
compared.
Limitations of
Research
Limitations of
Research
Result of faulty planning
and implementation of the
project.

The individual researcher.

Limitations of
Research
Result of faulty planning
and implementation of the
project.

The individual researcher.

Limitations of
Research
The scope of knowledge or
information available about
the topic and the problem
under the study also must
be considered.
Limitations of
Research
The tools of measurement
may be inadequate or
entirely lacking.
