(South Yard, HWT, ASU)

Audited By: Mr. Amarendra Behera

Mr. Soumyajit Pradhan
Mr. Simanta Sourya
South Yard: 1 no. rest shed

1.The anchoring of the base plate of the structure was not done
properly as the length of the nail was 610mm and 260mm
(average) nailed inside the ground.
2. The Iron nails been used are not of same size.
3. The anchoring was not been done on each hole of the base
plate (4 holes available in each base plate).
4. The nylon rope of 14mm diameter been used for tying of
tarpaulin cloth was not strength enough to bear the tensile load
as it tear out with the due course of time.
South Yard:

1. The joints are not

Bolted properly.
2. The cross bracing was
not provided.
3. Horizontal bracing at
the top was tied by the
cloth pieces.
4. Horizontal tie member
was provided in
alternative position to
connect the circular
structure rather than at
each position.
5. The nut and bolts
were rusted.

3
HWT : 1 no. rest shed

1. The base structure been provided was

strength enough as it was concreted at
the bottom rather than nailing.
2. The cross bracing given at the wall side
of the rest shed was rested(not
connected) to the structure rather than
bolting.
3. The nylon rope of 14mm diameter been
used for tying of tarpaulin cloth was not
strength enough to bear the tensile load
as it tear out with the due course of time.
4. cross bracing was not continuous along the
roof.

4
ASU : Paint shed (DAMAGED)

1. The primary reason of the

damage is the wrong/loose
fixing of the base.
2. It should not be nailed with
the soil with only
250mm/300mm anchorage.
3. Out of 4 holes in base plate,
only 1 or 2 holes were nailed.
4. Loose nut/bolts are the
secondary reason for this.
5. No plan bracings are available
In the structure.
6. Soil are very loose. Not
compacted properly. Nail
were so loose that , they came
out with bare hand.

5
ASU : 2nd rest shed (Ongoing New Installation work)

1. The anchoring of the base plate of the

structure was not done properly, the
nails are outside the hole of the base
plate.
2. Base frame is 4 legged. It is more
stronger than 2 legged frame.
3. Rusted bolts should not be used.

6
RECOMMENDATIONS :
1. BASE OF THE SHED TO BE FIXED PROPERLY. NOT WITH LOOSE SOIL OR NAIL. IT SHOULD BE FIXED WITH RIGID
FOOTING/RCC FLOOR .
OR
MAY BE SMALL ISOLATED FOOTING TO BE PROVIDED FOR EACH COLUMN.

2. PLAN/HORIZONTAL BRACING TO BE PROVIDED ALONG THE WHOLE SPAN.

3. LOOSE/RUSTED NUT ,BOLT TO AVOIDED.

4. DESIGN WIND SPEED TO BE CHECKED FOR THE STRUCTURE. PROPER TIE REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF WIND.

5. STRUCTURE PLACED IN VAST OPEN AREA , TO BE DESIGNED WITH PROPER BRACING ARRANGEMENT & FIXING DETAILS.
A SINGLE LOOSE MEMBER OR CONNECTION CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE.

6. IT IS BETTER TO REMOVE THE TARPOULIN AT THE TIME OF WIND SPEED ABOVE 50-60 Km/Hr.

7. TIE WITH CLOTH PIECES TO BE AVOIDED.

8. ALL CONNECTIONS TO BE CHECKED PERIODICALLY.

9. PROPER INSPECTION PROTOCAL TO BE MAINTAINED.

10. WORKING UNDER THE SHED DURING THUNDER STROME/HEAVY WIND TO BE AVOIDED.
