MODEL OF THE

HUMAN RESPIRATORY
SYSTEM
MODEL OF THE HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

- To study a functional model of the human respiratory

system
- To show the relationship between the air pressure in
the thoracic cavity and the process of Inhalation and
Exhalation
THE HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
THE HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
THE HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

1. Nostrils
2. Nasal Cavity
3. Pharynx
4. Larynx
5. Trachea
6. Bronchus
7. Bronchiole
8. Alveolus
MODEL OF THE HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
MODEL OF THE HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

1.Mineral water
bottle (cut in half)
2.Balloons
3.Straws
4.Plastic sheet
MODEL OF THE HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

• The bottle represent our Ribs

-To protect our lungs
• The Balloons represent our Lungs/Alveolus
-That is where gaseous exchange occurs
• The straws represent our Trachea and Bronchus
-Lead air to our lungs
• Plastic Sheets represent our Diaphragm
-Change the volume of our thoracic cavity
INHALATION PROCESS
INHALATION PROCESS

When we pulled down the plastic sheet

- The air pressure inside the bottle
decreases
- The volume of the bottle increases
- This reduced pressure causes outside
air to enter the balloons
This occurrences is called Inhalation in
humans
EXHALATION PROCESS
EXHALATION PROCESS

When the sheet is pushed up

- The volume of the bottle
decreases
- The air pressure inside the bottle
increases
- This increased pressure forces air
out of the balloons
This occurrences is called
Exhalation in humans
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION

• Inhalation occurs when the diaphragm moves

down

• Exhalation occurs when the diaphragm curves

up
