PRESENT SIMPLE
•  It is used to describe habits, unchanging
situations, general truths, and fixed
arrangements. 
• Just use the base form of the verb: (I take, you
take, we take, they take) The 3rd person singular
takes an -s at the end. (he takes, she takes)
EXAMPLES
• To express habits, general truths, repeated actions or unchanging situations, emotions and wishes:
• I smoke (habit); I work in London (unchanging situation); London is a large city (general truth)

• To give instructions or directions:


• You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left.

• To express fixed arrangements, present or future:


Your exam starts at 09.00

• To express future time, after some conjunctions: after, when, before, as soon as, until:
• He'll give it to you when you come next Saturday.

Be careful! The simple present is not used to express actions happening now.

The structure of the Present Continuous tense is
:
• The auxiliary verb (be) is
conjugated in the Present
SUBJECT + auxiliary be + main verb Simple: am, are, is

• The main verb is invariable

Present Simple in present participle form:

• For negative sentences we

HOW DO WE USE THE PRESENT
CONTINUOUS
We use the Present Continuous to talk about:TENSE
•action happening now
•action in the future

Present Continuous for action happening now


a) for action happening exactly now
I am eating my lunch.
past present future

The action is  
happening now.
b) for action happening around now
The action may not be happening exactly now, but it is
happening just before and just after now, and it is not
permanent or habitual.
John is looking for a new job.
past present future

  The action is  
happening "around"
