Causes
- Vietnam was being taken over by communism, and US
feared it would take over everywhere. This was known as the
Domino Theory.

- At The Gulf of Tonkin incident, it was believed that North


Vietnam attacked the USS Maddox.

- The Gulf of Tonkin resolution was passed, which allowed


Lyndon B Johnson to take any measures he felt he needed to
keep peace and prevent communism in Vietnam.
Consequences

- President Johnson did not want to raise taxes for the war, so
the war caused heavy inflation.

- 58000 American troops died.

- 2 million vietnamese civilians died.
