Social and Ethical
Responsibilities
Social responsibility - is an ethical practice which
makes individual accountable of his/her actions
towards Civic duty, and the actions should benefit
the society.
Ethical responsibility - is individual's ability to
recognize, interpret and act based on standards
and norms acceptable to society.

The following are some of the suggested social


and ethical practices in the use of technology tools
and resources;
 Use the school's computers and equipment for
educational purposes only. Please be reminded that
these are government funded instructional devices from
everyone's taxes. Personal use is unethical.

 Ask permission when using school's resources.


Schools are mandated to be the custodian of school
properties including it's resources to make sure that
these will last and the school community will be
benefited.
 Take care of school's technology equipment. Make sure you
are familiar with the technology equipment before using. Ask
the assistance of school staff as deemed necessary for the
appropriate use of the equipment.

 Visit recommended educational portals and platforms only.


Teachers, library personnel and the school, in general
provide instructional learning management system(LMS) and
recommended website for possible digital needs and
resources. Refrain from visiting and exploring websites which
promote inappropriate and inaccurate contents.
 Respect and value the work of others. "Copy and Paste" is
unethical and a subject for legal sanction. Downloading
videos, images, and graphical designs which are available
in the internet are improper unless properly identified and
recognized. Learn and/or review the proper way of citation
and giving credits or recognizing the work of others.

 Use legal and appropriate software and programs only.


Legal software and programs are those purchase legally
such as SPSS. Do not be intimidated or be encouraged to
use software from illegal source.

Netizenship and
Netiquette in online
community
Netizen
• The term netizen is a portmanteau of the English word
internet and citizen, as in , "citizen of the net" or "net
citizen".
• It describe a person actively involved in online
communities or internet in general.

Netizenship
- net users who are empowered by collecting, creating,
sharing information and knowledge with other.

Netiquette
- set of rules that encourages appropriate online behavior
related to the social and cultural norms of a community.
NETIQUETTE
GUIDELINES
1. Be friendly, positive and self-reflective. When people cannot
see you, and also do not know you, feelings can be hurt if you are
not careful in how you express yourself.
2. Use proper language and titles. Do not use slang or even
profane words in an online environment, even if they are words
you consider "not so bad" as they will sound offensive to the
readers.

3. Use effective communication. This takes practice and


thoughtful writing. Try to speak and write clearly at all times.
Again, reread before respond.
4. Professionalism. Learn the characters like smiley faces, and
instant message abbreviation out.

5. Ask for clarification. If you are unsure of what was said , or


the instructor's directive, or are trying to interpret a person's
expression, then ask again.
