(China vs USA)

Critically evaluate Apple vs Huawei war (China vs
USA) and its repercussions on Pakistan?

The ongoing "war" between Apple and Huawei can be seen as part of the broader trade and
technology rivalry between the United States and China. Both companies are major players
in the global smartphone market, with Apple being based in the United States and Huawei
in China.

The US government has raised concerns about Huawei's alleged ties to the Chinese
government, including concerns about cybersecurity and espionage. As a result, the US has
imposed restrictions on Huawei, including limiting its access to key technologies and
banning its products from certain markets.
On the other hand, China has taken a more aggressive stance against Apple, with Chinese
state media and government officials criticizing the company's business practices and
accusing it of violating Chinese consumer rights. China has also taken measures to sup-
port domestic companies, including Huawei, and has sought to promote Chinese technol-
ogy and innovation.

The repercussions of this "war" between Apple and Huawei, and the broader US-China
rivalry, on Pakistan are complex and multifaceted. Pakistan is a significant market for
both companies, with a large population of smartphone users.
On the one hand, Pakistan could benefit from the competition between the two compa-
nies, with consumers potentially benefiting from lower prices and more innovative
products. However, Pakistan could also be caught in the middle of the US-China rivalry,
with potential implications for its own technological development and geopolitical
position.

Moreover, Pakistan's relationship with China has been growing stronger in recent years,
with China becoming a major investor in Pakistan's infrastructure projects. This could.
lead to Pakistan being more closely aligned with China in the technology sector, which
could have implications for its relationship with the United States.
In conclusion, the Apple vs Huawei "war" is part of a broader US-China rivalry that has.
complex and far-reaching implications for Pakistan. While the competition between the
two companies could have benefits for Pakistani consumers, the country could also be
caught in the middle of a larger geopolitical struggle over technology and innovation.
Why did Huawei create its own
equivalent of google services?

Huawei created its own equivalent of Google services, known as

Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), after being put on the US
government's Entity List in May 2019, which restricted its access
to Google's Android operating system and services such as Google
Play Store, Google Maps, and Gmail.
This move by the US government was seen as part of a larger trade and
technology rivalry between the US and China, with Huawei being tar-
geted due to concerns about its alleged ties to the Chinese government
and potential security risks.

Without access to Google services, Huawei faced significant challenges

in maintaining its position in the global smartphone market, as many
consumers rely on Google's services for their smartphones. To address
this challenge, Huawei decided to create its own ecosystem of apps and
services, including HMS, which includes alternatives to Google’s.
services, such as AppGallery, Huawei's app store.
Creating its own ecosystem of apps and services allows Huawei to
maintain its competitiveness in the global smartphone market and
reduces its reliance on Google's services, which could potentially be
restricted in the future. It also allows Huawei to have more control
over its software and user data, which is seen as a significant
advantage in terms of privacy and security.

Furthermore, the creation of HMS and other alternative services is

part of Huawei's broader strategy to become more self-sufficient and
less reliant on US technology and services. This aligns with China’s
larger goal of promoting domestic innovation and reducing depen-
dence on foreign technology, which has been a major priority for the
Chinese government in recent years.
