CURRICULUM

EVALUATION
Objectives Curriculum Evaluation

• To determine the outcomes of programme

• to help in deciding whether to accept or reject a
programme
• to ascertain the need for revision of the course content
• to help in future development of the curriculum material
for continuous improvement
• to improve methods of teaching and instructional
techniques
Evaluation

value of something or the extent to which
goals are being achieved.
• it is a process of making a decision or reading
a conclusion
Curriculum Evaluation
• Curriculum Evaluation is the
process of obtaining information

educational program, product,
procedure educational objectives.
THE TEACHER AS CURRICULUM
EVALUATOR
As curriculum evaluators, teachers need to:
1. Evaluate lessons, programs, and students
2. Evaluate goals and objectives, content and methodology
including outcomes or results of learning.
3. Select appropriate evaluation tools and techniques in
assessing learning outcomes.
4. Prepare evaluation tools like authentic assessment tools
including traditional assessment methods
5. Do formative and summative assessments.
6. Evaluate instructional materials that facilitate
better teaching and learning.
7. Gather data that will help him/ her in planning and
designing or improving the curriculum.
8. Understand the curriculum evaluation process.
Cronbach as cited by Reyes(2015) distinguishes 3
types of decisions for which evaluation is utilized

1. Course improvement- which pertains to decisions as to

what instructional methods and materials meet the
objectives of the curriculum and where changes are
needed;
2. Decision about individual- which concerns identifying
the needs of the learner, planning for instruction and
groupings and making the learning become aware and
conscious of their own deficiencies; and
3. Administrative Regulation- which
focuses on judging how good the
school system to question about
selection, adoption, support, and worth
of educational materials and activities.
There are different subjects or objects for evaluation but
focus of curriculum evaluation maybe on the following:

• GOALS AND OBJECTIVES. which achievable will

produce desired outcomes.
• CONTENT AND METHODOLOGY. the curriculum
is planned to meet the needs of the learners.
• OUTCOMES / RESULTS. weather the curriculum
is effective or not
Types of Curriculum
Evaluation

• Formative Evaluation
• Summative Evaluation
Formative Evaluation

• Formative evaluation occurs

during the course of curriculum
development. Its purpose is to
contribute to the improvement of
the educational programme.
Summative Evaluation

• In summative evaluation, the

final efforts of a curriculum are
evaluated on the basis of its
stated objectives.
TYPES OF EVALUATION

PROCESS SUMMATIVE
PRODUCT
Four phases of program evaluation
emphasized in this model are:
1. CONTEXT EVALUATION- is defined as the
circumstances that form the setting of an event
statement or idea and in terms of which it can be fully
understood and assess.
2. INPUT EVALUATION- this provide information which
can help decision maker in selecting procedures and
resources for the purpose of choosing appropriate
methods, materials and strategies needed to achieve the
progrmas goals and objectives.
3. PROCESS EVALUATION- it is means of
monitoring to make that the program is implemented
well and to make modifications or revisions on the
program.
4. PRODUCT EVALUATION- this is used to compare
actual ends with intended or desired ends, leading to
a series of modifying and/or the recycling decision.
