5 JUNE WORLD

ENVIRONMENT DAY
World Environment Day has been chosen by the United Nations as
a day to raise awareness among people around the world and to act
on nature conservation. Since its inception in 1974, the event has
grown into a global platform to reach people from all over the
world. It is celebrated in over 100 countries.
Above all, World Environment Day is the "day of the people" in
which to take care of the Earth. It can be something small, at the
local level, or bigger at the national or global level, a stand-alone
action or one that brings many people together. Everyone can
choose. Every year, World Environment Day is held with a theme
that draws attention to an acute pressing environmental issue.
In 2021, the celebration of World Environment Day will focus on
the restoration of ecosystems and will focus on restoring our
connection with nature. This will mark the official launch of the
UN Decade for the Recovery of Ecosystems 2021-2030.
World Environment Day is the most important event aimed at
protecting the environment, which is celebrated every year on
June 5. The event provides an opportunity to encourage people
around the world to take a responsible attitude in the field of
conservation and improving the quality of the environment.
The value of nature
In recent decades, scientific advances, as well as growing
environmental problems such as global warming, have helped us
understand the immeasurable ways in which natural systems support
our own prosperity and well-being. Through the rapid acceleration of
science and technology, man is gaining the power to transform his
environment in countless ways and on an unprecedented scale.
For example, the world's oceans, forests and soils are huge
reservoirs for greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and
methane; farmers and fishermen ennoble nature by land and
water to provide food; Scientists are developing drugs using
genetic material derived from the millions of species that make
up the Earth's amazing biodiversity.
Billions of people in agricultural areas around the world spend
every working day "connected to nature" and are fully aware of
their dependence on natural water sources and know that nature
provides them with livelihood through fertile soil. They are
among the first to be affected when ecosystems are threatened
by pollution, climate change or overexploitation.
Nature's gifts are often difficult to measure in monetary terms.
Like clean air, they are usually taken for granted, at least until
they become scarce.
In the age of asphalt, smartphones and the fast pace of modern life,
connections with nature may be short, but with your help, World
Environment Day can show more clearly than ever, the need for
harmony between humanity and nature, so both to flourish.
