Dimension — the numerical value
that defines the size of an object.
The dimension line is a fine,
dark, solid line with arrowheads
on each end. It indicates direction
and extent of a dimension.
Extension lines on a drawing are fine,
dark, solid lines that extend outward
from a point on a drawing to which a
dimension refers.
General Rules in Dimensioning

duplicated.

4. Dimensions should be attached to the
view that best shows the shape of the
feature to be dimensioned.
5. Avoid dimensioning to hidden lines
6. Dimensions should not be placed on
the object.
7. Overall dimensions should be placed
the greatest distance away from the
object
8. A dimension should be attached
to only one view
9. Never cross dimension lines.
