Introduction
Basketball Equipment Basketball can be
played with very little equipment. That is
why it has become one of the most popular
sports to play worldwide. Basketball can be
Muscular Endurance
played outdoors on asphalt and dirt or
indoors on wooden floors
FACILITIES IN BASKETBALL
COURT

The basketball court is the playing surface,

consisting of a rectangular floor, with
baskets at each end. In professional
Muscular
basketball, it is usually madeEndurance
out of a wood,
often maple, and highly polished and
completed with a 10 foot rim.
COURT

In the National Basketball Association

(NBA), the court is 94 by 50 feet (28.7 by
15.2 m). Under International Basketball
Federation (FIBA)Muscular
rules, the Endurance
court is slightly
smaller, measuring 28 by 15 meters (91.9 by
49.2 ft). In amateur basketball, court sizes
vary widely.
Free throw line
The free throw lane is a
rectangle in a team's
front court and used to
line up players during a
free throw. The
standard free throw lane
is 19 feet long by 12
feet wide.
Three point Arc
The FIBA regulation three
point arc is 6.75 m away
from the basket but in
NBA it is 7.24 m. Any
shot made outside of the
three point arc is worth
three points instead of the
normal two.
The Key

The top of the key in basketball

refers to the top most point of the
arch above the free throw line.
NBA and WNBA: 16 feet width by
19 ft length
FIBA: 16.08 ft width by 15 ft length
College and High School Basketball:
12 ft width by 15 ft length
Baselines and sidelines

The terms baseline and endline

both refer to the ends of the
court running behind the goals.
Baselines measures 15m. The
outer edge of the court is
denoted by the sidelines, which
run the length of the court. On
a full-sized court they measure
28m
Line markings

All line markings on the floor

are 2 inches wide and can vary
in color.
EQUIPMENTS IN BASKETBALL
The hoop

Basketball hoops consists of

backboard, rim, and net. It is
10 ft high from the ground
which is a standard measure
at all levels.
Backboard

Basketball backboards are flat

elevated vertical boards with
mounted baskets, or rims.
Backboards are 72 inches wide by
42 inches tall, with the inner square
of 24 inches wide by 18 inches tall.
The board is 275 centimeters high
from the floor surface to the bottom
of the board
Basketball rim

The rim is a metal ring with an

18-inch diameter. The rim is
attached to the backboard 10
feet above the ground.
Nets

Basketball nets are hung from

the bottom of the rim with
lengths between 15”-18” | 38.1-
45.7 cm.
ball

Today, basketballs are made with

synthetic materials such as rubber,
polyester, and nylon in combination
with leather.

In the NBA, the pressure of the ball

must be between 7.5 and 8.5 pounds
per square inch. The size of the ball
measures 29.5 inches in
circumference, known as a Size 7.
Ball pump

For optimal play, you will

need a ball pump just in
case. Ball pumps inject air,
usually by hand, and help
keep basketballs properly
inflated at all times.
Basketball jerseys

The jersey identify who you are.

Jersey sizing comes in the
traditional extra-small, small,
medium, large, extra-large, and
double-extra-large, and takes into
account your height, chest size,
waist, and hips.
Basketball shoes

Basketball shoes are one of the most

essential pieces of equipment to play
the sport. A good pair of shoes will
give you an edge on the court while
providing extra safety. Their stability
will allow you to move laterally and
perform quick cuts to beat defensive
players.
Basketball socks

You may not think socks are

important, but they prevent
friction between your feet and
your shoes. Having a nice pair
of socks will prevent blisters
from forming on your heels and
toes, and provide added support.
Shooting or arm sleeves

Arm sleeve also known

as compression sleeves
or shooting sleeves, this
article of clothing not
only looks good, but it
aids in muscle recovery
on and off the court.
Knee pads

Knee pads provide players with a

cushion to absorb impact from the
high-speed collisions on the court
that can result in bruises,
abrasions or even broken bones. It
reduces the risk of a fracture or
break giving athletes a sense of
security while playing.
Shot clock

A shot clock is a device that is

used to keep track of the
amount of time the offense is
allowed to have the ball. The
shot clock lasts 24 seconds in
the NBA and 30 seconds in
college basketball.
Whistle

In basketball, whistles are a

piece of equipment used by the
referees in order to signal the
start or stop of play.
Additional equipments

Headbands Backpacks
Conclusion
Basketball is physically demanding and fast moving. The
explosive energy of racing up and down the court is
taxing on leg muscles and ligaments. The contact nature
of the sport ups the risk of falls and collisions with other
players. Appropriate protective gear can help to minimize
injury risks.
