WHAT IS A KEYBOARD?

-A keyboard is one of the primary input devices


 used with a computer. Similar to an electric 
typewriter, a keyboard is composed of buttons
used to create letters, numbers, and symbols, and
perform additional functions.
• It is a human interface device which is represented as layout
of buttons and keys.
FEATURES OF KEYBOARDS

• Typing keys- These keys include the same letter, number,


punctuation, and symbol keys found on a traditional
typewriter.
• Contains special purpose keys.
• Toggle and combination keys.
• Keysticks provides some additional features to make
typing easier.
HISTORY OF KEYBOARDS

• The history of the modern computer keyboard begins with a


direct inheritance from the invention of the typewriter
• Keyboard was invented by Christopher Latham Sholes.
• Soon after, in 1877, the Remington Company began mass
marketing the first typewriters.
• In the 1930s, new keyboard models were introduced that
combined the input and printing technology of typewriters
with the communications technology of the telegraph

Most computers come with a keyboard It is easy to make mistakes when typing in
supplied data

People are using keyboards to enter data, If you can't touch type, it can be time
they need very little training consuming to enter data

Keyboards are not suitable for creating


•A skilled typist can enter data very quickly diagrams

Specialist keyboards are available e.g. Disabled people often find keyboards
ergonomic, gaming keyboards difficult to use

 
TYPES OF KEYBOARDS

• QWERTY Keyboards
• Designed in the likeness of old-fashioned typewriters, QWERTY is the most common
keyboard layout. Generations of typists have come to know the QWERTY keyboard, and
most students learn to type with this kind of keyboard layout.
• Wired Keyboards
• Wired keyboards offer an affordable and effortless swap if you want to find a keyboard
style that suits your needs.
• Numeric Keypads
• Not all computers come with keyboards that include the number pad. The 
numeric keyboard is an easy solution for that
• Wireless Keyboards
• Relying on a radio frequency antenna or infrared to keep you connected, 
wireless RF keyboards offer a bit of freedom in your computing activities.
CONCLUSION

• Virtual keyboards uses sensor technology and artificial intelligence to let users work on
any surface as if it were keyboard
• Hence invention of keyboards helped the generation to reduce workload and completing
the task in a systematic manner.
