Introduction
Effect of bitumen on strength characteristics of fine and
coarse aggregate
 Bitumen is a material obtained by fractional distillation of crude petroleum as
an end product. Bitumen concrete is used in construction projects such as
surfacing roads, parking yards, preserving timber, waterproofing stone walls,
airport pavements, and much more. It comprises Asphalt, usually used as
binder and mineral aggregate which is mixed together, placed down in layers,
and finally compressed. In recent years, the regular increase in traffic
volume, changes in daily and seasonal temperature in making the pavement
surfaces less durable. To overcome these problems, few replacements are
made to the bitumen for improving the pavement characteristics and quality.
Thus it will satisfy both the strength as well as economic aspects!

Problem Statement

 When soil become loosened like fine and coarse materials and doesn’t
enhance its characteristics through direct compaction method then addition of
admixture to alter its properties according to engineering standards may need.
Different researches show a positive and effective response by the addition of
bitumen in form of emulsified and cutbacks and their result shows effective
maneuver in the field.

Objectives

 To check the effect of cutback bitumen on soil grains.

 To enhance the strength properties of fine and coarse soils.

 To correlate the results on different percentages age wise(time wise).
