This project report describes an automatic street light circuit that uses a light dependent resistor to sense light levels and control street lights accordingly. The circuit uses an LDR, transistor, battery, resistors, LEDs, and other components. It can automatically turn on the LEDs, representing street lights, when it is dark to save energy and reduce human effort compared to manually operated street lights. The student learned circuit making skills and electronic components through building this first project.

• ID : 2130 Introduction: This circuit is based on light dependent resistance. This circuit can be used in street lights to control them automatically, as it automatically turns on the lights in night time. The lights sensor used in this circuit detects the amount of light and according to that it controls the street lights. It is a very useful circuit especially for our country, it is very helpful in saving a lot of energy which is wasted by human controlled street lights. It will also reduce a lot of human effort. Schematics: List of components:
• LDR. (light dependant resistor)
• NPN transistor BC547. • Battery. (9V DC) • Resistors. (100k, 1k) • LEDs. • Vero board. • Jumper wires. Description: The main component of this circuit is the LDR i.e light dependent resistor which controls its resistance according to the sensitivity of light. The higher the sensitivity of light the higher its resistance and less current will flow from it. When there is low amount of light the LDR will flow more current and the transistors become forward biased and allows the current to flow through the LEDs. That’s why the LEDs in the circuit glows when the circuit is placed in a dark place. Discussions:
This circuit can be used in many other places where they
need light sensors with some modifications in this circuit. We can also use this on large scale by using relays and can control high voltage components through it. We can also adjust the sensitivity of the LDR by changing the values of resistors used in this circuit. Conclusion: As this was my first project, it helped me to improve my circuit making skills and also improves my knowledge about the electronic components. Also increases my interest in practical work.
