What is Management?
 In simple word what manager do is management but there is a proper
definition of management.
 Management is a coordination and oversight of work activities of
other so that their activities are completed efficiently and effectively .

Efficient means “doing things right”. Get most output from least
input.

Effectiveness can be described as “doing the right things”.

Completing activities and doing those work that help achieving
organizational goals.

Management Functions
 Henry Fayol French businessman in early of 20 th century first introduced
five management functions. Today these functions have been condensed to
four functions.
i. Planning: Defining company goals, establishing strategies and
developing plans to achieve those goals.

ii. Organizing: Arranging and organizing things to accomplish

organizational goals. Determine what task are to be done, who is to do
them and how it will be done.

iii. Leading: Manager with others to lead them toward organizational
goals. Motivate and lead the employees and restore conflicts.

iv. Controlling: Monitoring activities to ensure that employees are

working properly so organizational goals can be accomplished as
planned.
