Asháninka, Yanesha,
Nomatsiguenga y Kakinte.
Threats and challenges - Our struggle continues
Migratory invations + 10 thousand hectares:
COLONIZATION
- Invasion of communities and ancestral territories
(communal reserves and bufeer zones of protected areas)

Land trafficking
Monocrops (ginger, papaya, illegal crops – coca leaf + 5
thousand hectares)
Narco-trafficking
Remnants of territorism << Shining path)
Polluted rivers due to sewage discharges– cities

Main affected areas:


Valle del Pichis Palcazu – Huanuco and Pasco

Ene river: VRAEN – Mantaro - Apurímac

Junín – Cusco y Ayacucho

+ 50 highly affected communities


Main impacts
Rights violation:
- Collective and individuals
- There is no effective consultation or participation of
indigenous people.
- Threats to indigenous leaders
- Self-determination
- Peace and tranquility
Loss of biodiversity (food, medicines, firewood, housing
materials, handicrafts, etc.)
Alteration of the hydrological cycle, resulting in both the
reduction and deplition of water sources, as well as increased
flooding and landslides.
Decrease in food production

Soil degradation
Loss of cultural identity and traditions based on native ecosystems.
Conflicts with logging companies over land tenure in indigenous territories and
other native communities.
Deterioration of the landscape in tourist areas.
Contributions and progress:
• Titling of indigenous communities. More than
30 pending in the central amazonian region
• More than 30 communities waiting for land
titling rights
• Stop changing primary forests’ legal use
• Promote indigenous economy based on
agroforestry and policropping
• +30 full-life plans with finantial support from the
regional and municipal government.
• Dialogue tables on territorial security and
integral titling (terrestial delimiation)

Positioning of natural value added products from communal
forests under agroforestry systems

• Vivential tourism – Comunidad Nativa Pampa Michi ,


San Miguel, centro Maranquiari , San Jeronimo ,
Atahualpa, and others
• Pisciculture, cultivation of Paco, famitana and
boquichico. 1 ton of fish meat per year for food
security
• Agroforestry of cocoa and coffee. Successful
experiences with KEMITO ENE (Ashaninka peope) and
APANOSAN (Nomatsiguenga people): exportation of
chocolate.
• Handicrafts, necklaces, carvings, burilados, others.
