Qatar South Operational plan
Qatar South Operational plan
Operational Philosophy
Before rain starts Business As Usual –– Metito should maintain lowest level of water in storage assets such as
Blue Lagoon water level should be reduced with minimum level by open lagoon discharge to Mesaimeer system, this action will be taken
when lagoon level exceed 50% of its capacity, the action will be carried out by Metito PS team by opening the penstock for shaft 11 with
coordination with Ashghal’s team and they have to be sure AS01 is in operation mode with full capacity .
Installation of level Indicator required
SW5 over pumping should be normally open during BAU and NBAU this should be monitored
Lekhwiya tank to be emptied to lowest level by opening the discharge penstock and/or using submersible pumps facility, the action will be
carried out by Metito Network team. Water will be discharge direct to shaft 10 and then to blue lagoon, this procedure has to be done before
open the discharge of blue lagoon.
Aziziya tank ensure water level the lowest by opening the discharge penstock and/or using deep injection facility, the action will be carried
out by Metito SGWN team.
IC25 / IC26 Lagoons to be emptied to lowest level by pumping the water to Measimeer tunnel by diesel pumps, this action will be carried out
by SGWN team.
PWA Work shop to provide the required Diesel pumps for IC25 lagoons
Qatar South Operational plan
GraveYard Lagoon Lagoons to be emptied to lowest level by pumping the water to Measimeer tunnel by diesel pumps, this action will be
carried out by SGWN team.
RUP-PS will remain discharging to AG0 outfall during BAU and NBAU.
AG1 penstock will be closed during BAU. North Contractor responsibility.
Shaft 8 will be in Standby Mode.
All underpasses tank should maintain lowest water level and ready for rainy season.
All soakaway in main roads to be inspected for further action.
All deep injection system will be inspected and cleaned before next rain event.
P1 & P2 for gullies will be inspected for further action.
EFAs should maintain lowest water level and ready for rainy season.
Customer service team will carry out the regular inspection for the repeated complaint to check the status of the network and take further
action.
Qatar South Operational plan
During the rain- Alert Status – The gates/penstocks to be closed/opened so that the use of available storages can be maximized
as per the following plan.
AG1 penstock to be opened and flow to be discharged through AS01 (North Contractor)
SW5 over pumping valve remain open -Overflow diverted to Tunnel – ( Valve is controlled by ??)
RUP penstock will remain close to divert flow to AG0 outfall (PS Team)
Lekhwiya tank penstock to be opened 50% (PS Team)
To ensure discharge penstock for shaft 10, 22,22A are open and flow diverted to blue lagoon. (PS Team)
AS01 to remain operated as manned station and diesel supply to be secured .
All underpasses PS including SW1, SW5,RUP,IC25, IC26,AS01,JUP,MUBT and shafts 10,22,22A will be man operation mode
Shaft 8 will be standby
Ramada signal pump will be manned operation mode
Mobilization for assigned hotspots
Customer service team to ensure all dewatering facilities through network is stopped
Customer service team start to mobilize teams to critical negative area such as wakra lagoon, wukair, sailyia, Bu sidra ,Mauither, Mebaireek,
Mamoura, Ain khalid and Bu hamour.
Qatar South Operational plan
During the rain - Incident Status – Certain real time controls need to be operated as per the stated procedures, once the
water level in the system reaches to a certain level. These controls are required to be operated remotely from the ECC room as per the
followings:
DNMC coordinators will monitor the water level and take necessary action to report to concern person
DNMC coordinators should keep updating the staus to PWA staff and Metito staff as well
Customer service team will carry out the responsibility of customer complaints related to rain flooding during the rain event.
Customer service team will aasign stand by team to carry out any required maintenance related to SGW assets during the incident
After Rain Event – The works shall be done by Ashghal’s Assets Affairs so that the assets are drained and resumed to business
as usual status to ensure readiness for possible further rains as per the followings:
• The lagoons will be drained to maintain lowest water level as per the priority
• Tanks to be drained to maintain lowest water level
• EFAs drained to maintain lowest water level
• Any negative storage system to be emptied
• Required reports will be submitted to PWA after rain event
• Any new hotspots will be reported to PWA

Doha South STW : Metito is going to use IDRIS as storage facility during the Rainy season
2020/2021 for the area’s with negative system to reduce the hydraulic load
Connection to IDRIS on the FS Ps as following:
1. Rain water will discharge to the FS PS
2. Excessed flow will divert to the tunnel by opening the Penstock.
3. storage water will be recirculated again to the FS Ps during the BAU.
4. Muberak
5. Ain Khaled

1)PS W12-Road elevation is above the station level. Diesel pump should be available during rainy season.
2)PS 17& SW9- road elevation is above the station level. Diesel pump should be available during rainy season.
3)WUP1- wet well capacity is less and cannot manage the flow during rainy season and rising main line is small(150mm).
4) BARUP1 - wet well capacity is less and cannot manage the flow during rainy season and rising main line is small(150mm).
5) KARUP1 - wet well capacity is less and cannot manage the flow during rainy season and rising main line is small(150mm).
6)NDIA2 -wet well capacity is less and cannot manage the flow during rainy season.
Area of concern
1. The operation philosophy is required for shaft 10,22, 22A.moreover, we need to know there is another facility to discharge the water directly
to abo humor tunnel and by passing the blue lagoon in case of the emergency.
2. DC chamber Drawings and details which connected to SW5
3. Flow chart diagram and drawings for all tunnels in Doha south showing the connection points
4. Flow chart diagram for all EFA systems
5. Location of all operational penstocks
6. Flow chart diagram for interim solution projects including the temporary solution for the assets not connected
7. Coordination procedure between PWA workshop and Metito during rainy season
8. Agreement with PWA workshop to keep some arrangements such as hoses, temporary pipes and facilities which currently are using to
connect isolated systems with discharge point to be used by Metito till ongoing projects handed over and be in operational mode.
9. Metito Requests from PWA to provide portable access on tablets to monitor the asset’s operation such as penstocks, valves, pumps, flow…
etc
10. Penstocks and weir information for Shaft 11
11. Manual operation for penstocks
12. Operation philosophy for shaft 22A roller gate
13. Operational philosophy for Distribution chamber for shaft 10 and shaft 22

NETWORK SOLUTION:
• ONCE HYDRAULIC MODELING IS READY AND HISTORICAL INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE.
• GENERAL REVIEW OF THE NETWORK INCLUDING PUMPING STATIONS AND SURFACE GROUND WATER AND FOUL GROUND WATER THEN
CLASSIFY THE AREA AS FOLLOWS :
• Type 1 : Area Covered by Separate system with sufficient pumping capacity
• Type 2 : Area Covered by Foul Sewer Network only and Negative Surface Ground Water Network:
• Type 2 A - Foul Sewer Network (RM) & Pumping Station can accept the flow without impacting the house connections.
• Type 2 B - Foul Sewer network (RM) can accept additional flow, but Pumping station are loaded.
• Type 2 C - Foul Sewer network (RM) and Pumping station loaded and network is surcharged
• Type 3 : No Foul Sewer Network and No Surface Ground Water Network (very rare).
Type Proposed Recommended Solutions
Type 2A Automatic penstock mechanism to discharge to network in
emergency only
Type 2 B Upgrade Pumping Stations – At least one bigger capacity
pump fed by VFD
Type 2C Separate SGWN or Artificial lagoon or deep well injection
