AND COMPUTER SOFTWARE
ANALYSIS (ETABS) OF BEAM

PROJECT GUIDE PRESENTED BY

Prof. Asheena Sunny Murad Seid (1801158)
INRODUCTION
• ETABS is a special-purpose computer program developed specifically for building
structures. It provides the Structural Engineer with all the tools necessary to
create, modify, analyze, design, and optimize building models. These features are
fully integrated in a single, Windows-based, graphical user interface that is
unmatched in terms of ease- of-use, productivity, and capability.
• ETABS (Extended Three Dimensional Analysis of Building System) is a software
which is incorporated with all the major analysis engines that is static, dynamic,
Linear and non-linear, etc. and especially this Software is used to analyze and
design the buildings.
• Structural analysis and design is used to produce a structure capable of resisting
all applied loads without failure during its intended life.
• In this study we will discuss about comparative study between manual analysis
and computer software analysis (ETABS) of beam.
Objectives

The main objective of this study :

• Literature review for analysis and design of ETABS software
• Comparative study between manual analysis and computer software analysis
(ETABS) of beam.

Two commercial programs for structural

Software because it may be assumed a priori that the best
approximation would be obtained with the cubic variation
ofthe bending stiffness
STAAD-Pro (version 2007) has just one modeling option i.e
linear tapering of I-beams.

It was found out that :

studied.

The principle purpose of this work is to analysis and design a

the models are analyzed for gravity loads and lateral
loads(Seismic and Wind) with different load combinations as
per Indian standards. Both loads (Gravity and Lateral) are
calculated as per the Indian standards.

The result shows that building with grid slab is stable and
economical, contrasting to all other slab arrangements
used in the building analysis against wind and seismic loads.

A G+5 commercial multistoried building having flat slab and
conventional slab has been analyzed for the parameters like base
shear, storey drift, axial force, and displacement.
The performance and behavior of both the structures in all
seismic zones of India has been studied.

Comparative study of flat This work has been analyzed using ETABS software. Direct

Kavan M.R 2015 slab structure using for punching shear against software. Flat slabs are more affected
ETABS for different by punching shear because of the absence of beam
earthquake zones of
India the storey shear of flat slab is 5% more than conventional slab
structure, the axial forces on flats lab building is nearly 6% more
than conventional building, the difference in storey displacement
of flat and conventional building are approximately 4mm in each
floor. The result gives the suitability of flat slab for various seismic
zones without compromising the performance over the
conventional slab structures. As the seismic level increases all
parameters like axial force, displacement, storey shear intensities
are increases.
