QUARTER 3: WEEK 4

SCIENCE

OPEN AND
CLOSED
CIRCUITS

Most households
have several
devices that make
use of electricity.
How does
electricity flow to
our appliances

• Two condition for

electricity to flow
– There must be a
source of electricity
– There must be a
complete path for
the electricity to
flow.
•  a complete path around which electricity
can flow. It must include a source of
electricity, such as a battery. Materials that
allow electric current to pass through them
easily, called conductors, can be used to link
the positive and negative ends of a battery,
creating a circuit.

CIRCUIT
1. THE SOURCE
-it provides the energy
that makes electrons flow.

2. LOAD
-this are the object that uses the electrical energy

CIRCUIT
3. WIRE
-it links the
power supply with the
object. Conducting
wire such as copper
and aluminum are
commonly used.

4. SWITCH
-or the controlling device. It is used to open or
close a circuit
TWO TYPES OF
CIRCUIT
CLOSED CIRCUIT A closed circuit
makes a bulb light up
because the path of
electricity is
complete, allowing
the electricity to flow
through it. Electricity
flows from the
negative to the
positive terminal of
the dry cell.
OPEN
CIRCUIT
Electricity
does not flow in
this kind of
circuit because
there is a gap or
no complete
path from one
end of the circuit
to the other end

QUARTER 3: WEEK 5
TOPIC:
Have you observe that in a series Christmas
lights, once on bulb is busted the entire series
of light will not light up?
SERIES CIRCUIT

How about your lights and light bulbs at home. Does it also
follow when a bulb in a room is busted, does the other
bulbs do not light up?

SAFETY RULES
AND
PRECAUTIONS IN
USING
ELECTRICITY
Electricity can cause Fire,
Electric Shock, and even death
when not properly used.
Proper use of Electricity

• Do not overload circuits. Avoid octopus connection

• Do not touch the metal parts of appliances when standing on a
wet floor or damp earth.
• Do not use damaged cords
• Do not pull or plug from the socket by the cord. Provide cover
for electrical outlets
• Do not use electrical outlets
while in the bathtub. Do not
place them where they may fall
in the water.
Proper use • Do not climb the poles of
transmission lines.
of • Do not fly kites near the wires or
Electricity transmission lines
• Do not put your fingers in a light
bulb socket.
• Do not gear a fallen electrical
wire. STAY AWAY
