Accessories

 Textile & Apparel industries are one of the fastest-growing industries, providing employments to
millions.
 Textile have such an important bearing on our daily lives that everyone needs to know.
 The textile industry in India traditionally, after agriculture, it is the only industry that generated huge
employment for both skilled & unskilled labor in textile.
 It is the second largest employment generating sector in India.
 It is one of the oldest industry in Indian economy.
Historical Background

Textile – Defined as the yarns that are woven or knitted to make fabrics.
There were only 9 export oriented garments manufacturing industry in1976, earned only 1 millions dollar.
English inventors in the 18th century began to automate textile cottage industry process.
In the 1800s, cotton was raised in the southern united states and exported to mills in England & the North's.
In 1999, there were 2900 garments factory in the country.
Now, In Bangladesh the number.
of garments manufacturing
units are 5500.
Manufacturing of KHADI Fabric

 Khadi is Hand spun and woven cloth.


Khadi is also called as Khaddar.
 It could be Cotton, Silk or Wool.
 Khadi has historical importance it is a symbol of national freedom movement
of India.
 Khadi was launched in 1920 as a peaceful weapon in the freedom movement of
India by Mahatma Gandhi.

Growing market size

 The global textile market size was valued at USD 993.6 billons in 2021
 E-commerce platform is expected to drive the market growth over the
forecast period.
 Fashion is the largest application segment in the resign owing to the
fast changing fashion companies.
 Cotton led the market and accounted for more than 39% shares of the
global textile revenue in 2021

Current Trends

 The textile Industry is a major foreign exchange earner of the country.


The textile industry occupies a very important place in Indian economy.
 The industry is the second largest employer after agriculture, providing
direct employment to over 45 millions and 60 million people indirectly.
 the Indian textile industry contributes approximately 5% to GDP, & 14
% to overall index of industrial production.

Impact of COVID-19

 The impact of covid-19 on India has been largely


distributive in terms of economic activity as well as a loss
of human lives.
 Textile industry is one among the biggest contributors to
the country exports with around 11.4% share in Indian.
 The fashion design council of India ( FDCI) , as an
example was amongst the first to announce a covid-19
support funds for tiny businesses and young designers in
need.
 The pandemic has not only affected the demand for textile
and apparel but also its supply.
Future Trends

 The textile industry is expected to attracts investment of about $120


billons by 2024-2025 & creates about 35 millions additional jobs in
the process.
 The domestic textile & apparel industry is projected to grow at a
CAGR of 12% ,up to 2025 , so as to reach level of US $350 billons.
 Under union Budget 2020-21, a national technical textile mission is
proposed for a periods from 2021-22 to 2023-24 at an estimated
outlay of Rs 1,480.

CONCLUSION

The textile industry plays a significant role in Indian economy


by providing direct employment to an estimated 35 million people,
by contributing 4 percent of GDP and accounting for 35 percent of
gross export earnings. The textile sector contributes 14 percent of the
value- addition in the manufacturing sector.
