1. Division of
Work
• Work should be divided among
individuals and groups so that they
can focus on their portion of the task,
build up skills, and become more
productive.
2. Authority
• Authority is the duty, which a
subordinate is expected to perform.
Authority and responsibility go hand
in hand. Authority without
responsibility leads to irresponsible
behavior, while responsibility
without authority will make a person
ineffective.
3. Discipline
•Materials must have “a place appointed for each thing and each thing must be
in its appointed place.” Places should also be “suitably arranged” and “well
chosen.” This is to avoid “useless handling, lost time, [and] risk of mistakes.”
•In addition, there should be “an appointed place for every employee” and each
employee is suitable for their place.
•Charts or plans are recommended in order to organize materials and people.
