EXCEL
FORMULAS

Prepared by: Ms. Lea O. Cabanig

Objectives
At the end of 60-minutes lesson, the
students should be able to:

a) transform math equations into Excel

formulas,
b) evaluate equations in Excel, and
c) demonstrate dedication to work while
converting math equations into its Excel
format.
LetExcel
us look at the
Formula table below for the
symbols used in Excel
Excel formula is an expression that operates on values
in a range of cell or a cell.

Examples:
=A1+A2-A3

=(A1/A2)*A3
Let us look at the table below for the
symbols used in Excel
Equations in Excel always
start with the equal (=) sign.
PEMDAS Symbol Name Cell addresses of the value in
equation.
P – parenthesis () Parenthesis
E – exponent ^ Caret
M – multiplication * Asterisk
/ Slash
D – division + Plus
A – addition - Minus
S – subtraction
PEMDAS rules

When multiplication is
combined with division, excel
evaluates the formula from
left to right, same through
when addition is combined
with subtraction.

Steps in Creating Worksheet that
computes the average of student’s
grade
1. Complete the table.
a. In cell A1, type your name.
b. In cell A2, type SUBJECT.
c. In cell B2, type GP – 1 (Grading Period).
d. In cell C2, D2, type GP – 2 and GP – 3.
e. In cell A3, A4, and A5, type the subjects.
f. In cell E2, type the AVERAGE.
2. Resize the column width to 11.00 or 82 pixels.
3. Make sure to put all text at the center of the
cell.
4. Fill up the cells for the grades in the three (3)
grading periods.
Covert Math to Excel
Convert the following math equations into their Excel
equivalent. Write your answers on the lines

=12+4*2 Example:
1. 12 + 4 x 2 15 + 5 (2x4)² =15+5(2*4)^2
2. (4 – 2)² =(4-)^2

3. 4 - 2² =4-2^2

4. 3 x 2 x 4 =3*2*4
=27/33
5. 27 ÷ 33
