How is balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide
maintained
The balance of oxygen and carbon
dioxide is maintained by plants, animals,
and humans. Green plants use up carbon
dioxide during photosynthesis and
release oxygen as a product.
Whereas, animals and humans use up
oxygen during respiration and release
carbon dioxide as a by-product. This
maintains the overall balance of oxygen
and carbon dioxide.
 What will happen if there will be less oxygen and
more carbon dioxide?

Increasing carbon dioxide and decreasing oxygen

make it harder for deep-sea animals to 'breathe' ...
About one third of the carbon dioxide that humans
produce by burning fossil fuels is being absorbed by
the world's oceans, gradually causing seawater to
become more acidic
• Why is the balance of oxygen and
carbon dioxide under threat?
• This natural conversion of carbon
dioxide from the Earth's interior to
oxygen is completely overwhelmed
today, by a factor near 103, by the
burning of fossil fuels, and the carbon
dioxide content of the atmosphere is
therefore increasing at a
relatively rapid rate.
