Title
Academic Performance of Students
Athlete in Junior High School of
Gonzalo Aler National High School
Introduction
• Sports in education is an integral part of the curriculum. It helps to shape a person’s personality and
contributes to their holistic development. Athletic training and academic study are interrelated. Both are two
sides of the coin (Golam Muktadir, August, 2022).
• Improvement of students’ academic performance is also among the basic goals of educational planning. And
it’s through academic performance that students can fully actualize their talents and capabilities in line with
educational goals. Notably, academic performance is considered as one important criteria of educational
quality. Therefore, without doubt academic performance presently is a major issue among students, teachers,
parents, school administrators, and the community at large. Researchers have made several attempts to
unravel the complexities surrounding academic performance (Ikpi, Enya & Johnny, 2014).
• Academic performance on examinations is the result of interactions among multiple variables such as
learning. Learning occupies a significant role in the life of students (Mangal & Mangal 2009).
• People have different learning styles that are reflected in different academic strengths, weaknesses, skills, and
interests. It has often been asserted that academic performance can be explained largely by factors such as
individual initiative, effort, and merit (Timothy, & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2007)
Introduction
• Executive Order No. 64, s. 1993 adopting a national policy and program of "Sports for All",
which mandates the Department to make physical fitness and sports accessible to all,
regardless of age, gender, talent, and capabilities, in all its organized sports competitions.
• THE 1987 CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES – ARTICLE XIV Section 19.
(1) The State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league
competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to
foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert
citizenry.
• Deped Order No. 8 s.2015 Section V (d) as a basis, all subject teachers are encouraged to
give the learner-athletes due consideration in all quizzes, activities, performance tasks on
the dates that they are out on training and competitions. It has become a practice that the
grades of the concerned athletes must be retained or increased.

1.1 Gender
1.2 Year level
1.3 Sports Event
2. What is the academic performance of athletes during the 2nd quarter and
3rd quarter?
3. Is there a significant relationship of being an athlete and their academic
performance?
4. What enhancement or intervention plan can the teacher and school can
give?
Theoretical Framework
• The theory of academic performance (ToP) was developed by Elger (2007). The theory
emphasizes six foundational concepts to form a framework that can be used to explain
performance as well as performance improvements. To perform is to produce valued
results. A performer can be an individual or a group of people engaging in a collaborative
effort. Developing performance is a journey, and level of performance describes location
in the journey. Current level of performance depends holistically on six components:
context, level of knowledge, levels of skills, level of identity, personal factors, and fixed
factors
Theoretical Framework
• Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory, the bodily kinesthetic
learning style is one of the eight types of learning styles or intelligence refers
to a person’s ability to process information physically through hand and body
movement, control, and expression.

profile (1.1 – 1.3)
• The t-test will be used to determine the significant relationship of student’s athlete and their academic
performance
• The result will be use to plan for an intervention program
