Terrorism in India can be attributed to many low intensity conflicts within its borders. The regions with long term terrorist activities today are: Jammu and Kashmir Mumbai National capital Delhi Central India Almost all part of India is affected with the terrorist activities.

800 terror cells active in country

National Security Advisor M.K Narayanan has said that there are as many as 800 terrorist cells operating in the country with "external support". These terror modules, had been uncovered by intelligence agencies. Without naming any country, Narayanan said that there was inspiration as well as support from abroad for terrorist activities being carried out in India.

What is sleeper cell?

A clandestine cell structure is a method for organizing a group of people in such a way that it can more effectively resist penetration by an opposing organization. A sleeper cell refers to a cell, or isolated grouping of sleeper agents that lies dormant until it receives orders or decides to act.

Initially, a previously unknown organization called the Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility. Later, Azam Amir Kasab, the single terrorist who was captured alive, disclosed that the attackers were members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-eTaiba Islamic terrorist group.
