Introduction
Definition: - It is the most effective non-destructive testing technique used in the aviation
industry to detect the subsurface and surface flaws as well as to measure the specimen
thickness. This technique takes the advantage of the high frequency sound waves to detect
any flaw within the material.

Types of Ultrasonic Inspection

- Contact testing: - Scanning is done manually over the test specimen surface by the
probe / search unit.

- Immersion testing: - Both the test specimen and

the probe / search unit immersed inside the water

Methods of Ultrasonic Testing

- Pulse Echo
- Transmission method
- Resonance
- Phased Array
