Introducation To IELTS
 Types Of IELTS
Academic
The IELTS Academic test is
suitable for those wanting to
study in an English-speaking
environment or university
(higher education) and for
professional registration
purposes. The test evaluates if
you are prepared to start
studying in English. It features
vocabulary that is familiar
within an academic setting.
General Training
The IELTS General Training test
is suitable for those applying
to study below degree level.
This includes an English-
speaking school or college, for
work experience or other
employment training and
migration.The test features
daily English language skills
that you will require in social
and workplace environments.
 Types Of IELTS

UKVI and Non UKVI

 IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are the same in terms of format,
content, scoring and level of difficulty. However, the Test
Report Form which contains your results is slightly different to
show that you have taken the test at an official IELTS for UKVI
location, which is approved by the UK Home Office.

 You can choose whether to take IELTS Academic on paper, on

computer or online at home or other suitable location.

Listening

• This section lasts for forty minutes which includes recording of

thirty minutes and extra ten minutes is given to transfer answers
in the sheet.
• There are four parts of the recordnings which comprehends
conversations between two to four people on various social and
academic contexts.
 IELTS MODULES
Reading

• This section lasts for sixty minutes in which you have to solve 3
unseen passages and transfer the answers to the sheet.
• Remember, there is no extra time given to transfer answers.
• There are total fourty questions (includes types of fill in the
blanks, true or false, match the headings, etc.)
• The level of difficulty increases each time.
 IELTS MODULES
Writing

The writing part of IELTS is of two parts-

1. Perception Writing (for academic module)
or
Letter Writing (for general module)
2. Essay Writing
Both of the tasks has to be completed in total 60 minutes.
 Writing
Perception Writing (Aademic)
• It is recommended to complete
this section in 20 minutes.
• You have to write almost 150
words in this part but we
suggest our students to write
up to 180 words to be at safer
side.
• Here, a visual (bar graph, pie
chart, procedure) is given and
you have to describe it.
Letter Writing (General)
• 20 minutes is sufficient to
complete this task.
• It requires 150 words, whil we
suggest to write 180 words.
• You will be presented with a
situation and asked to write a
letter for information or
describing the situation.
 Writing
Essay Writing

• This part takes about 40 minutes to complete.

• You should write atleast 250 words and we suggest to set the
limit of 270 words to avoid risk.
• Here, you should write an essay in response to an issue or
argument.
 IELTS MODULES
Speaking

• Its a on-on-one session which takes between eleven to fourteen

minutes.
• Its an interview between the test taker and a trained certified
examier.
• Majorly, its divided into three aprts which consists of an
introduction, cue-card and follow up or related questions.
