KINGDOM PLANTAE

NONVASCULAR AND
VASCULAR SEEDLESS PLANTS
Rotaru Mihnea 9G
What are nonvascular
plants?
• In short,nonvascular plants are a
simple type of plant which is seedless,
lack specialized vascular tissues for
water and nutrient transport.
• There are 2 types of nonvascular
plants:byrophytes(moss,liverwort,etc
.) algae(seaweed).
• These plants are mostly found in
moist enviorments.
Anatomy and Physiology
• The anatomy of a nonvascular plant:
• -It is made up of a Gametophyte and a
Sporophyte.
• The gametophyte has “root like”(Rhizoides) and
“leaf like” structures which help it absorb
nutrients
• The sporophyte has “flowers-like structures”
which have a capsule that produces spores.
• The physiology of a nonvascular plant:
• Dependent on moisture
• Absorbs Nutrients
• Reproduction through spores
Vascular vs Nonvascular plants

There are a few key differences between vascular

and nonvascular plants:
1)Reproduction:Nonvascular plants reproduce
through spores,while vascular plants reproduce
with seeds.
2)Vascular Tissue:Nonvascular plants lack a lot of
the more complex systems Vascular plants
have, such as vascular tissues that conduct
nutrients throughout the plants body,while
nonvascular plants rely on absorbing surrounding
nutrients.
3)Adaptability and enviorment:Most nonvascular
plants are limited to highly moist enviorments to
survive, while vascular plants are more adaptable.
Reproduction
• 1)Gametophyte Generation
• 2)The creating and fertilizing of eggs
• 3)The emergence of Sporophytes
• 4)The Sporophytes produce spores.
• 5)Said spores are released to be carried
by the wind.
Life Cycle of Nonvascular plants
1)We start with a spore.

2)Said spore starts to grow into a rhizoid.

3)Eventually,Gametophytes start to grow.

4)They are consistently sent absorbed

nutrients and eventually mature.

5)The Reproduction Process

6)They eventually die,although the lifespan

of these plants varies on the
nutrients,moisture of their
enviorment,species,etc.
Vascular Seedless Plant Anatomy and
Physiology TO AVOID CONFUSION

Anatomy:
Vascular Seedless Plants share a lot of characteristics with
Nonvascular plants, but there are a few key differences:
-They have vascular tissue for water and nutrient transportation
-They have roots instead of rhizoids.
-They have photosynthetic leaves
The rest is mostly the same, like the reproductive system.

Phisiology
-Photosynthesis
-Adaptability:They are able to adapt to different enviorments, and
are able to exhibit responses to various environmental stimuli. For
example, they may grow towards light or adjust their growth.
-Reproduction through spores
-Transportation of nutrients:Due to their vascular tissue, they can
transport water and nutrients to all parts of its body.
Vascular Seedless Plants Reproduction
Seedless Vascular Plants undergo a similar
process of reproduction as to nonvascular
plants.
1)Gametophyte has eggs which are
fertilized.
2)The eggs develop into zygotes which
develop themselves into new sporophytes.
3)Sporongia are small structures which grow
on the Sporophytes,which produce Spores
through meiosis.
4)Said spores are released to be carried by
the wind.
Life Cycle of Vascular Seedless plants
Examples Nonvascular
• Vascular Seedless
• Horsetail

• Fern

Lily pads ---->

Fun fact
• #1 Nonvascular plants like moss and
liverwort are incredibly old,immediately
following and being derived from algae, the
first plant on Earth.
• #2 Some moss can be luminous/fluorescent

• #3Fern can live up to 100 years

• #4 Fiddleheads(the young, coiled fronds ) of

some ferns are edible.
• #5Several seedless vascular plants have
been traditionally used in various cultures for
medicinal purposes. For example, extracts
from certain fern species have been used to
treat ailments like respiratory disorders,
digestive issues, and skin conditions.
