WHAT IS AREA OF A
RECTANGLE?
• The area can be defined as the amount of space covered by a flat
surface of a particular shape. It is measured in terms of the "number
of" square units (square centimeters, square inches, square feet,
etc.) The area of a rectangle is the number of unit squares that can
fit into a rectangle. Some examples of rectangular shapes are the
flat surfaces of laptop monitors, blackboards, painting canvas, etc.
You can use the formula of the area of a rectangle to find the space
occupied by these objects. For example, let us consider a rectangle
of length 4 inches and width 3 inches.
WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF AN ARE OF A
RECTANGLE

• In other words, the area of a rectangle is the product of its

length and width. That is, A = l x w where l is the length and w is
the width of the rectangle. For example, the area of a rectangle of
length 35 m and width 25 m is 35 times 25 or 875 square meters.
ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF AREA OF A
RECTANGLE
Example 2: Find the area of the rectangle whose length is 15 cm, and the width is 4 cm.
Solution:
Given,
Length = 15 cm
Width = 4 cm
Area of a rectangle = Length × Width
15 × 4  = 60
So, the area of rectangle = 60 cm2
• The definition of a
rectangle is a four-sided
figure or shape with four
right angles that isn't a
square like a license plate.
An example of a rectangle REAL LIFE
is the shape of a an 8x10
picture frame. Any four- EXAMPLE
sided plane figure with four
right angles. Any such
figure or shape that is not
a square; oblong.
