WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF
COMPARATIVE POLICE SYSTEM?

This study covers the different transnational crimes, it’s
nature and effects as well as the organization of the law
enforcement set-up in the Philippines and it’s comparison of
selected police models and their relation with Interpol and
UN bodies in the campaign against transnational crimes and
in the promotion of world peace.
HISTORY OF ROYAL THAI POLICE

- In 1998, the Thailand National Police was

transferred from the Ministry of Interior of
Thailand to be directly under the Office of the
Prime Minister. It acquired a new name, the
“Royal Thai Police”. It was originally modelled on
the pre-World War ll national police force of
Japan.
ROYAL THAI POLICE

> quasi- military in character.

> reorganized several times to meet changing public
order and internal security needs.
> performs law enforcement duties & duties of national
defense.
> w/ about 230,000 Police Officers.
> there is 344 cops for every 100,000 persons in Thailand.
MAJOR OPERATIONAL UNITS OF RTP
> PROVINCIAL POLICE – largest of the RTP operational components in both personnel &
geographic responsibility. Provides police services to every town & village throughout the kingdom
except metropolitan Bangkok & border areas. Provincial Police is the principal representative of the
central government’s authority in the country.
> BORDER PATROL POLICE – integral in US & Thai counterinsurgency efforts. Other than
protecting the borders , they countered infiltration & subversion,& operated as guerilla forces in enemy
held areas.
> METROPOLITAN POLICE – responsible for providing all enforcement services for the
capital of Bangkok & it’s suburbs. They are the most visible & publicly recognizable of all Thai Police
components.
> CENTRAL INVESTIGATION BUREAU – organized to both provincial & metropolitan
components of the RTP in preventing & suppressing criminal activity & in minimizing threats to
national security.
